But that’s not the point. The point is this: starting 8/31, you’ll be able to fly from Fort Lauderdale to Cuba for 99 bucks. (Add another $99 if you feel like coming back.) That’s right — it won’t even cost $100 to visit the island state formerly forbidden to nearly all Americans since JFK was president.
JetBlue will fly to three Cuban destinations from FLL: Camagüey, Holguín and Santa Clara. It’s one of only six airlines flying to Cuba from a variety of U.S. cities, but it’s at least 20 percent cheaper than its chief competitor: American, which will fly to Cienfuegos and Holguín from Miami for around $260 round trip.
Getting there isn’t as simple as other Caribbean destinations, a legacy of the half-century-long embargo — Conde Nast Traveler here lays out the 12 profiles for permitted travel. But with visa in hand — and a Visa on hand — we’ll all be free to explore (and Instagram) a nation long off-limits and unseen, at least by us.
