Botched Robbery Leaks 16,000 Gallons of Oil into Brazilian Bay

It will be weeks before the impact on local wildlife is known, one biologist said.

The delicate ecosystems of Rio de Janeiro’s Guanabara Bay are doused in oil after a pipeline robbery went wrong, according to the BBC. While the Brazilian oil firm Transpetro told the media that workers have cleared most of the 2.5-mile spill, a biologist said it will be several weeks before it’s clear just how damaging the spill was to local wildlife.
