New Yorkers often boast they walk a lot.
They’ll soon have the chance to prove it — by hiking straight on up to Montreal or Buffalo. That’s because Governor Cuomo has proposed connecting those two cities to the five boroughs via a 750-mile paved biking and hiking trail. Dubbed The Empire State Trail, the proposal will connect gaps in about 350 miles of pre-existing trails and cost somewhere on the order of $200 million. Seeing as these trails already net an economic boost of $300 million a year, the plan doesn’t seem outlandish at all — and that’s not counting the benefits to health and wellness.
We look forward to taking it on the heel and toe.
