Fido Model 1 Is an E-Scooter That Competes with Gas Bikes

When Jeb Gast went looking for an e-scooter that could measure up to a gas-powered model but sans a ton of electric add-ons, his search bore no results. So, being a pretty enterprising guy, he decided to just build one himself.

Designed with simplicity and longevity in mind, the Fido Model 1 is a no-frills scooter built from steel and other ready-to-roll components that give it a top speed of 45 MPH and all-electric range of 35 miles. Weighing in at 200 pounds, the street-legal two-wheeler comes ready to grind and, with its easy-change tires and basic build, is easy to maintain even if you’re not a DIY guy.

Also available in a scaled-down moped version, the Model 1 scooter has a 4.5-kW motor and runs on a 72-volt battery that can charge nearly anywhere. Also, thanks to its front and rear shocks, hydraulic disc brakes and 12-inch tires, that’s also basically where it can ride.

Currently being manufactured in a limited run of just 25 scooters, the hand-painted Model 1 comes with a two-year warranty that covers all updates, repairs and replacements as well as a handmade messenger bag that fits on the scooter’s leg shield.
